Nearly 60 diners gathered for the Annual OHRFC Dinner at the newly named Amba Hotel in Marble Arch, last Saturday 19/3/16.

The budding Clouseaux amongst you will no doubt remember that Saturday evening was the night of England's first Grand Slam in 13 years....winning Le Crunch by a comfortable margin 21-31 at the Stade de France.

After some initial technical hitches traditional with hotel AV, diners glided silkily from bar to their tables and launched themselves headlong into 'taking wine', eating and silent viewing of the aforesaid match, with proceedings kicked off by a typically amazing grace from Mr Tony Alexander.

This Dinner broke new ground in our long and illustrious history, as, moving with the times, WAGs were invited for the very first time. 9 brave ladies took up the challenge and were welcomed appropriately and occasionally slightly inappropriately by a jolly, stout, balding chap decked out in a bistro table cloth of magenta and white.

The evening swerved and sidestepped seamlessly through the usual toasts and ad hoc outbursts and then paused for speeches from our very own Little and Large, AKA President Ian McCarthy and Captain Simon Miller.

Ian thanked the club and all its players, contributors and supporters and made special heartfelt mentions of 3 absent friends, Messrs Baker, Cook and Downes, all of whom are fighting their own battles at present.

Simon continued the theme of gratitude especially to some of the now almost veteran members of the 1st XV squad and awarded the John Stagg Memorial Shield for his outstanding contribution to the club, to Mr Ian Sanderson, (the older, better looking one).

The evening soared from the ridiculous to the sublime and everyone left on various adventures, home or otherwise.
