We have just been advised of the sad news that John passed away on 24th October 2012, we are trying to find out some further information and will add what we are able to obtain as soon as possible.

John was a very active OH over the years and continued to attend functions until recent years. He was one of the founders of British Car Auctions and donated very generously to the OH sporting clubs and to Combined London Old Boys RFC.

It is with much sorrow that we advise you of the death of Douglas Whittaker, who passed away last Monday night 10^th December. He had been suffering from bowel cancer.

A Christ Church, Oxford Scholar - Doug taught at Habs from 1964 until 1968 and then from 1970 until 2000. During his time here he was Head of the Mathematics department as well as Contingent Commander of the CCF.

As generations of boys will testify, Doug was an inspiring teacher, certainly a one-off, possessed of great skill in the techniques of Mathematics – what made Doug so special was his ability to challenge the boys, to provoke them into thinking in new ways, to give them the desire and the confidence to get stuck into problems the like of which they had never seen before.

The annual Prefect’s Training day, owes much to his ideas of CCF cadet leadership training and he even introduced computing here in the 1960’s.

Michael Cook commented that “Doug had an extraordinary ability to anticipate educational change. He established a Maths department that is second to none in the country and his energies and enthusiasms re-vitalised the CCF”.

The Funeral is to take place on Thursday 20^th December at 10am - Garston West Herts Crematorium, High Elms Lane, Garston, Watford, Hertfordshire, WD25 0JS.

If you would like to attend the funeral and the wake (which will be held at the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School after the service) then please could you notify the school by replying to this email before 10.00am on Monday 17 December 2012, in order for us to organise catering arrangements.
