1975 LEAVERS REUNION
30TH ANNIVERSARY - 25 JUNE 2005
Around 50 former pupils, together with 20 wives and partners and 10 former masters, gathered at the school on the evening of 25 June for a reunion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their departure from Haberdashers.
In all, over 80 leavers from the 1975 year were contacted, with many travelling long distances to attend from as far afield as the United States, Belgium and France. Tracking down so many of the leavers proved to be a hugely challenging exercise that would have been impossible without the indispensable support provided by "Google"!
The majority of those present had not been back to the school since collecting their A level results and many of those had not kept in touch with more than a few of their contemporaries. Those attending were offered the chance to enjoy a brief tour round the school, led by current 6th formers, to see for themselves the many changes that had taken place over the 30 years since they left.
A reception in Aldenham House was followed by a buffet dinner in the Prep School Hall. The reunion gave those present an opportunity to reminisce about their school days and to renew old friendships. The highlight of the evening was a highly amusing speech given by Frank Hanbidge, that was rich with anecdotes about the class of 1975, and included specific references to many of those present!
The evening was brilliantly co-ordinated by Doug Yeabsley, catering was in the highly capable hands of his wife Jackie, and valuable support was provided by Carol Allison together with a team of current parents and 6th formers.
A loose leaf year book was produced to celebrate the event that should help all of those who were contacted to keep in touch in future. The evening was a great success and further reunion events are now being planned.
